Have you ever considered the crave for consumables. People love to eat and eat well. You could be thinking of meeting a need in this very lucrative industry. Even if you do not have a dime to start.
Let me quickly show you one business under this category and also a great way to get started.

1. Egg Distribution:
Depending on how you have you can venture into this small business that will pay you daily. Let’s look at it practically.
If you have no money at all, there are very simple ways you can go about it. Let’s look at some briefly.

i. Look for a farm that provides eggs.

ii. Make inquiries about price of the crates. Be sure to get a competitive price. Ask how many crates you can get per day. This is very important so that you don’t disappoint your customers. The more crates they can provide the better.

iii. Look for those that will be buying from you. Walk into supermarkets and tell them you have eggs. Let them know your selling price. Talk to mai shais (tea and bread sellers) also give them a good price.
You may just be surprised that the orders are coming in almost immediately.

Once orders start coming in , walk politely to the farm manager and tell him you need eggs but you have no **********.
The trick here is that just order very few crates maybe about five for those that will pay you immediately. The manager may consider your request if politely asked.

But if you have some money you may allow credit for only a day or two. Because this is a business that people will coming to seat in front of your house to wait for you because they want eggs.

You can make a lot of money from this business if you have some money to invest and very good customers (those that pays on time). And the good thing is that you make money everyday.

This is just one of the lucrative small businesses around. But I must honestly tell you that there is a chunk of proven practicable businesses in this book. 114 practicable business ideas in one book showing you how to market yourself and your business and earn real money in 2010.

Businesses You Can Start On A Shoe String Budget (PART 2)

Julius a friend of mine, works as a school teacher in one of the primary schools in town. He earns N8, 000 monthly which would not be paid when it was month end. And as usual my friend did not find it easy with that sum he earned because he was always broke in no time.

I spoke to him many times on starting a small business but he always complained of time and not knowing what business to delve into. Time continued to pass on, the standard of living continued to in crease and his salary had only the face value but could not meet his increasing needs.

As his rent expiration was coming close and of course the rent had been increased by 25% by his landlord. His frustration became more intense and he began to fret.

On the 2nd of January 2010 I walked into his apartment and we got talking, he expressed his growing financial inadequacy and how he was going to pay his rent that will expire in a short time and even if he collected his salary it would not be enough to clear the rent.

Something had to be done. I suggested to him starting a small business once again and he gave in. But his problem was capital. He said he would like to go into recharge card selling and making phone calls. The capital involved to start this business will be N10,000.

A business he could start with about N5, 000 was what he needed and after a little brainstorming we resolved he a started a black market of fuel.. This he could start conveniently with N5,000.

He swung to action that same day to gather the items he would use such as a table, a 25 litres keg, 1and 2 litre containers (one used in the saloons), a place he would be buying fuel from and a business space. At the end of that day he had already gathered the items he would require to start off. He promptly told me how he had gone and had already starting thinking of raising the initial capital.

But because he made a move, raising the capital was not difficult. He started the business and things really began to take place. He would go to school in the morning and resume in his business place after he closed from school. He did this with passion as he was able to raise money to meet immediate needs.

Now as write this article, he had paid off his rent and what he told me shocked me. A business that is not up to 2 months old has close to N10,000 owing him and he has started buying fuel in a second and a third keg. He is really doing well in that small business and he is living off the salary for now. That is to say the money he earns as a teacher is just an addition to his income.
My friend is already considering quitting his teaching job to face this business squarely and expand.

This is one business you too can embrace and get going on with something. If you don’t want to do the direct selling get someone to do that for you.

There are a 114 ideas lurking in this book, get a copy and you would not regret having obtained that copy and me tell you, this one I have highlighted in this article is not included in the book. So what are you waiting for start something and see what happens.

IT CAN BE DONE.

Tuesday, 9 February 2010

The world is full of pessimists. They would rather see the glass as half empty instead of half filled. Everywhere you turn, every idea you throw at them, the answer is always, it is difficult. It cannot be done.

Do not listen to them because they are wrong, dead wrong. The poet says “Beware of those who stand aloof and greet each venture with reproof. The world would stop if things were run by those who say it cannot be done”

The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur flew the first airplane in 1903 in North Carolina. When they were doing the experiments that led to that plane, people called them craps. Now, where would the world be today without aeroplanes? Air planes had shortened distances so much that you can wake up in Kaduna and sleep in London the same day.

New Jersey Farming experts in 1797 refused the first cast iron plough claiming that it would poison the land and aid weeds. Can you imagine where Agriculture would be without machinery? Surely, cutlasses and hoes cannot feed the billions of mouths in the world.

The Brooklyn bridge joining Brooklyn to Manhattan in the USA conceived by the Roeblings is indeed a miracle bridge. When it was being conceived by John Roebling and his son Washington in 1863, all bridge experts said it could not be done. With self conviction they trudge on but unfortunately an accident happened along the way that killed the father and left the son speech impaired besides the fact that he could not move. He used his fingers to tap code to communicate to his wife what the engineers at the bridge should do. This he did for good thirteen years until the wonder bridge was completed.

During the conceiving period of the underground train, German Engineers predicted that at 25miles an hour in the tunnel, the train would make people bleed and that passengers will suffocate. In fact they said that more mental institutes should be built to accommodate people who the trains would give mental problems. Today underground tubes move people in the tunnels at staggering speed. If the tubes are down in London, the whole city will stop. Forget about experts. Opinions are the cheapest commodities and in many cases they are worthless

Despite the early beginning of Shina Peters, the juju maestro in music, many said he could not lead a band because according to them he could not sing. Stick to the strings and leave the mic to another person they said. He joined with Adewale to form Shina Adewale band. The bond did not hold and they split. Shina Peters went solo because he believed that he could sing. Although he made many records with poor returns, he got his break in the early 90s with that chart buster of a record called Ace. In quick successions he made records that sold in hundreds of thousands. Those days he almost ran King sunny Ade out of town. Like he said, the voice they said was not sweet became the velvet voice. Now, when they are talking of the top of the shelve juju musicians in Nigeria, Shina Peters is there with them.

If you ask Kolawole Bisiriyu, the publisher of this paper you are holding, how many it- cannot-be- done advice he got while conceiving this idea, he would tell you they are many. They must have said no, it cannot be done. Not in Kaduna of all places anyway but because he believes it can be done, you are able to hold and read this paper.

Vision is important for survival of people. A vision conceived in faith, sustained by prayer and fuelled by words of God cannot fail. The holy book of the Christians says,” where there is no vision my people perish”

If you have a vision and why not, pursue it with a passion. A vision pursued with passion will succeed. Nobody has said you will not meet obstacles. When you meet them, jump over them or just bulldoze your way through them, after all you have to go through to get through. While at it, believe it can be done, because it can be done and it will be done.

YOU WILL SACRIFICE.

Sunday, 7 February 2010

If anyone tells you the road to the top is easy, do not believe him. It has never been and it will never be. Look at all the great men in history; they made sacrifices to get to the top.

Do not get me wrong. You are not going to be offering goats and rams in one fetish shrine but you have to make personal sacrifices to be anything worthwhile in life. Money people can lend you, advice you will get, workers are there aplenty but one thing nobody can do for you is self denial. And this is a vital ingredient to make the success soup.

Those who do nothing become nothing. If a woman wants to have baby, she must be prepared to lose blood. You cannot make omelette without breaking eggs. There are no two ways about it. Even in Economics, they say you cannot have everything. You arrange your wants in order of priority or prefrence, get some at the expense of others. They call it opportunity cost, I call it sacrifice. You have to forgo so many things to grow your business.

When starting off, you cannot afford to spend money like an established man. You cannot attend all parties and your spouse cannot buy all dresses in fashion. If , for instance you are starting a beer joint, you cannot afford to be drinking like a fish, otherwise you drink yourself out of town.

Thomas Edison is arguably the topmost investor. He was reported to be working at his lab till very late on daily basis and was doing the till 74 year of age. Nobody says you should not have a rest. As a matter of fact if you do not come apart you will fall apart but it is doubtful if Edison would be remembered so much as we do today if he had spent his time in disco halls.

Chie Obafemi Awolowo, first premier of western region and leader of the Yorubas once said that when his peers were busy following women of easy virtue, he was busy working at solving Nigeria’s problems Is it a wonder then that his name is still the most respected name in the history of the Yorubas. If he was busy running after wine and women he would not have made such impact. You have to give something to get something.

Dr Sunny Ojeagbese, the boss of complete sports and unarguably the father of Internet marketing here locked himself up for weeks to decode internet marketing. During those weeks his wife was the only person to see him and only to bring his meals. That sacrifice has today produced many internet gurus in the country. I can confess that the little I know about internet marketing I got through his seminars and the tutelage of the publisher of this paper you are holding, Kolawole Bisiriyu.

To make good grades in school, you sacrifice your sleep. To be a top athlete, you spend hours in the gym and on the field. For an hour delivery, the motivational speaker must have spent hours collecting his materials and even practising delivery.

For Gods sake, you do not become a medic if you have not spent seven years in the university. If you want to be a chartered accountant you write ICAN examinations and if you want to put on the wig you have to go to law school. You do not do any of those without self sacrifice. You must have burnt a lot of candles in the night as they say; You must have shunned many night parties and outings. Chances are that you will lose friends along the way. These are necessary sacrifices and denials.

People want to ride jeeps without effort. They want to live in mansions without corresponding input. That is why there are many internet rats spoiling the image of the country. It never happens. Something has to give. This is the law of nature. You cannot reap where you have not sowed. You must sacrifice.

Go and learn from an average Igbo trader. He sacrifices a lot to grow his business. He sleeps in his shop when he can afford a room. He cuts outings and shun ostentatious living. He buys a bike when he can afford a car and when he eventually buys one he buys a beetle when he has fund for a Benz. He does all these to grow his business and before you know it the guy has shops all over the place. Go and do likewise.

START WHERE YOU ARE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE.

One of the problems facing budding entrepreneurs is wanting to start in a big way, failing to realise that it does not work out like that. Most of the big businesses you see today started small.

Michelin makes one out of four tires in the world but the company was started in a very small way. James J Hill started the East –West railroad across the USA prairies with nothing except the imagination to idealise and actualise the vast railroad. By the time he died in 1907, his estate was in excess of £12,000,000.

The Eliganza group of the Okoyas was started at Obun Eko in Lagos with selling of wrist watches by their patriarch Razaq Okoya. The empire being sat on by Obazzu Ojeagbese was started with #6500 in the eighties.
Two thousand five hundred of this from the sales of his camera and Four thousand as loan. The seed money for the Coscharis group, wait for this, was #200 in 1975 and today that group is worth more than 15billions. Many big schools in Lagos started in one or two rooms.

You can start small.

In any case you cannot start from the top. It is not only wrong; it is also against the law of nature. You do not build a house from the roof. Besides, it makes good sense to start small in case you run into a bump. You do not test the depth of a river by putting your two feet. Little drops they say make the ocean

Fortunately, there are many businesses you can do with little or no capital and these we will be discussing in the next editions of this paper but before then, it is important to grasp the fact that you do not need a lot of money to be a business man. If you want to have money to build an Hamdala Hotel before you build a house you may end up not building one.

Also you do not have to get to Lagos to make it. You can make it where you are. For example this paper is taking off from Kaduna. Many people would have thought why not Lagos or Kano or Abuja, There are opportunities everywhere but the problem is to identify the opportunities. If you think hard enough, you will discover gaps in your locality. Pure water started few years back but water had been there all along. It took the thinking of a man to know that you can pack water in sachets. It took a Chief Gbadamosi to package water in plastic bottles and since the birth of Ragollis in Ikorodu many others have sprung up.

There are opportunities everywhere even in your village. Who is making bread in your village? Is anybody making mosquito insecticide in your neighbourhood? What of evening lessons for SS3 students? You can start organizing quiz competition among schools in Kaduna, in Zaria and even all over the state. What of organising excursion fort students which is self financing. Now, do you have competent dry cleaner in your area? Most of these businesses you can start with almost Zero capital.

From the next edition we will be discussing Zero capital businesses you can do but before then be prepared to start where you are with what you have.

To your business success.

Writing a Business Plan: Is It Worth the Time and Effort.

Friday, 5 February 2010

If are considering talking to a bank to finance your business then it is important you know that the first thing the bank Manager will ask from you is your business plan.

But if you feel it does not worth the time and effort then I will show you the benefits of having one.

1.The business plan is your vision on paper. Your ideas are clearly expressed on paper to make it possible for you to visualize what you stand to achieve.

2.When you go to your banker and start using your mouth to paint the picture of what you have in mind. The manager may end up more confused than when you started off. But when he sees your business plan, bravo! He gets the picture quickly.

3.The business plan convinces you and the bank of the feasibility and viability of your project. It makes it very easy for to sort out the key issues.

4.4. There’s no getting away from the fact that a business owner who plans ahead comes across as being more ambitious and more focused. A well prepared Business Plan demonstrates you have vision and that you know what you want

5. With numerous ideas floating around in your mind, the pitfalls or stumbling blocks to success are never that visible. A mind buzzing and full of ideas will rarely achieve clarity. A Business Plan forces you to put your ideas down in writing and in an orderly manner. The result of this could be you going in a completely different direction than you initially thought of, or even abandoning your idea altogether. Not a pleasant thought, but which would you prefer? The loss of your hard capital or the opportunity to re-think your idea?

6. It is an ideal tool to monitor progress against the objectives you have set yourself (we will cover objective setting later). By checking progress against your Plan, you will be able to spot if you are moving away from your original vision and so you will know what has to be put right

7. Imagine if you didn't have this check in place; an unnoticed change in direction or a slippage in achieving your objectives, if left uncorrected for too long, could be fatal to your business. On the other hand, it may transpire that a shift from your original vision could be a better alternative, but at least recognising this change allows you to adjust your course in a planned, structured and controlled manner

8. Every action you take has a consequence, and a Plan helps make these consequences much clearer. Being aware of the possible effect of your chosen direction allows you to plan ahead, leaving you better able to cope with whatever the world of self employment can throw at you. This is one thing that "mental planning" would not achieve

9. Putting your thoughts on paper may make you realise that you need to do more research on the demand for your product or service. It could also highlight that more investigation on your competitor's products or services is needed. Additional research could help avoid a potentially costly mistake or even uncover a hidden advantage, which you had not seen before!

10. A Plan will guide you as to how much money is needed to make an idea work. In your mind you may have a rough figure of what you’ll have to commit, but until you do a Cash Flow Forecast you may not realise that an overdraft limit will be required, in addition to a loan for your equipment. If the mention of preparing a Cash Flow Forecast brings you out in a sweat, don’t worry as later in the book I’ll be showing you exactly how to do one

11. A Business Plan will help you get funding. One of the main reasons Banks turn down requests for loans is a lack of information to assist in making an informed decision. If the Manager doesn't have enough knowledge about your idea or business then he won't feel comfortable enough to support you. He has to understand your business before he can say yes. Some time in the future he may have to justify to his superiors why he lent you the money, so he needs as much information as possible to back up his decision. A Business Plan will make him feel much more at ease and so more able to say yes

12. By the time you have finished writing your Business Plan you will have a total understanding of your business; its strengths and weaknesses, the environment it operates in, what could potentially go wrong, and what you can do to ensure your success. Doing your planning on the back of an envelope is not going to achieve this

You should realise by now that it's essential to have a Business Plan; it could be the difference between success and that dreaded "f" word - failure! It's all about understanding the importance of planning ahead.

Spend time putting your thoughts on paper in a structured and logical manner. It will pay you dividends, both in getting the Bank to take you seriously and securing the future of your business.

This book here will show the easiest way of writing a viable business plan. And if you are going to be venturing into big projects then you may need the bank.

Note:No bank will listen to you if you do not have a workable business plan.

Businesses You Can Start On A Shoe String Budget (PART 1)

Wednesday, 3 February 2010

This business I will be showing you now has very little or no capital at all. This is one business I have personally been engaged in and I must honestly tell the truth. It brings in lazy cash.

When I decided to stay away from paid employment, I went into internet marketing but the dough had not started showing up then so I decided to partner with a man in this business I will be describing soon.

The business involves having a lesson centre. I partnered this man and went ahead to start this lesson classes for primary 1- 6 only.

We got a football viewing centre as a venue put adverts written with cardboard paper around the premises of the viewing centre. We agreed to charge N500 per head monthly. And the time for the lesson will be from 4pm to 6pm Mondays to Fridays. And so we started the business.

On the first day we had only one boy, a primary four pupil. Before that day ended people around had started asking questions regarding the charge and how we catered for the pupils since we were using only one hall.

When I got home that day I told my neighbor what was happening and urged them to bring their two children that were already in school.

By the third day we had three pupils and we taught them what we needed to teach them. Before that week ended the size of the class had increased to 7 pupils. We added one other person to join us because he was a trained teacher.

Now we were three.

Before the month ended the size had increased to about 32 pupils paying us N500 each.
At the end of that month I collected N5, 000 as my own share for working only two hours a day.

I will not want to bore with my story, but I will like to tell you something we were able to gather about 80 pupils in about 5 weeks after we started and I was able to gather enough money for my upkeep and online business.

But something dramatically changed the whole story, most of the pupils that joined us started doing well in their respective schools and so everyone wanted to be part of the testimony and of course the number of pupils increased.

I left the centre after about 8 months and at that time we had been able to gather about 160 pupils and gotten a better accommodation for our pupils.

My candid advice is that you may look down on stuff like this but it is very profitable in its way.
1. You get better mentally as your brain not idle.
2. You immortalize yourself as the children get to like you, they will not forget your contribution to their lives.
3. You earn and as your outfit gets bigger you earn more.
4. Do not despise days of little beginning as this the starting point for greatness.

There will always be challenges but with persistence and cheer determination you can leapfrog those challenges.

The man I started with is still running the outfit till date and he is making cool cash from it. Look around your environment and see if you can start something similar to that. And if you feel it not for you then I will strongly advice you get this book.

It contains 101 businesses you can do! And if you get your copy fast just let me know so that I can give you my heavily researched e-book on how you can get an interest free loan in Nigeria. And I will also be giving you an unannounced bonus.

I bought the book and it is really a master piece.Get yours now as the price may go up anytime. You can get more details here.
